Dark Chocolate Protein Bread/Cake (Paleo)

Notes, page 10I’m a chocoholic. I just love chocolate. Scrap that. I adore it. Dark chocolate especially, oy! Makes me weak in the knees. You may have been able to tell by the fact that 25% of the 1,000+ recipes found on this website feature chocolate. Or maybe by the fact that I have a special recipe page designated for ‘Chocolate Protein Cakes’ (this one), another one for ‘Protein Chocolates’ (this one), and most of my protein bars also feature dark chocolate (evidence here).

Now, if for some perplexing reason or another, you don’t like chocolate, well… you probably find my posting excessive verging on absurd. You may have labeled me a ‘chocoholic’ before I ever raised my hand and mustered the courage to actually admit it! For you I have some words of comfort though:

I won’t give you another chocolate-containing recipe until next month when I present to you the world’s most amazing box of chocolates – on Valentine’s day, as is tradition (my plan actually is to create a protein version of THIS box of Lindt chocolates!)  Until then, I will present you with a chocolate-free season here at Protein Pow, after, of course, I give you this recipe:

3 cooked beets (I buy them vacuum packed but if you don’t have access to these just get some raw beets, peel them, and boil or steam them until they get soft)
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup chocolate Paleopro
4 tablespoons coconut flour
1 cup cartoned coconut milk
1/4 cup goji berries


photo 1 (2)1. Blend – with a foodprocessor or handheld (i.e. immersion) blender.

2. Pour – the batter in a silicone bread pan or a brownie pan if you want to make brownies.

3. Bake – At 170 C (338 F) until your knife comes out clean when inserted into the brownies (approx 40 mins).

4. Eat – with sweet protein frosting or without.

Macros per Serving (out of 10):

8g protein
9g carbs (out of which 4g is fiber so net carbs = 5g!)
2g fat
