Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Protein Cookies – Paleo Protein Cookies

Screen Shot 2014-08-10 at 17.49.40These cookies are a cross between chocolate chip cookies and cookie dough. They’re soft, gooey, and if you eat them fresh out of the oven, the dark chocolate just pours out and you kind of die a little.

I wasn’t planning on eating them like this – underbaked. I just didn’t have the patience to wait for them to fully cook (post-workout appetite can sometimes do that to a person). So I took them out too early. I actually took them out planning to just ‘sample’ one before putting the tray back in the oven but when I sampled one of the cookies I thought, OLYMPUS! WHAT IS THIS!? so I left the tray out and my sense of restraint went out the window. I ate three of them, along with a glass of milk.

They’re kind of revolutionary, these cookies. You could say they’re ‘paleo’ as they’re totally grain and dairy-free. They feature beef and egg protein powder. And a bit of stevia. And peanut butter. And a banana. And almonds. And a sprinkle of sorcery. Ready for the recipe? Here goes:


1 small banana
1 whole egg
1/4 cup ground almonds
1 tablespoon peanut butter
1/2 cup PaleoPro’s vanilla beef and egg white protein powder
1 teaspoon chocolate chip flavoring
2 squares  90% dark chocolate


1. Blend all the above ingredients together, adding your chocolate chips at the end. I just used two squares (20g) of 90% dark chocolate but the % is totally up to you.

2. Spoon the batter on a cookie tray as ‘blobs’. I got eight ‘blobs’ out of the mix.

3. Cook them at 170 C (338 F) for about 25-30 minutes or until, when you press them with your finger, they feel cooked.

4.  At this stage you can either remove them from the oven (by using a spatula) OR you can keep cooking to allow for them to transform into proper cookies (instead of these super soft cookies). I leave that decision between you and your taste buds

Macros per cookie (out of 8):

8g protein
5g fat
4g carbs

Note: Like I said above, I used a beef and egg protein powder to make these cookies. Let me tell you the powder is like: it’s… a bit salty but mellow. It has a slight beefiness to it which, I know, sounds weird but actually works really well against the sweetness of the vanilla. Flavor wise I’d give it a 9 out of 10 to be honest and nutritionally I’d probably go for a full 10.

There’s just nothing much to fault here! It has an amazing amino acid profile and not much added to it aside from stevia. All is all I’m impressed and really happy to have found this because I love the idea of beef protein powder but Carnivor wasn’t cutting it for me (I just feel it contains too many artificial and unnecessary ingredients). It’s a great gluten-free powder too which I like and it’s also soy (lecithin) free as well.

This all being said, if you don’t have this particular powder and you REALLY REALLY REALLY want to try these cookies you could give another beef protein powder and/or egg white protein powder a shot. You COULD also try whey but I’m not sure what’ll happen so if you want to guinea-pig your way through the recipe, go for it (and report back please).
