Three Amazing Protein Truffle Recipes by Super Charlie

Remember Charlie, creator of these ridiculous truffles? A lot of you will have met her at our Protein Pow workshops this year – and a lot more of you will meet her at the SFN expo next month! Charlie is a protein truffle wizard, or superhero as I’m calling her from now on. You give her some protein powder and set her loose in your kitchen and ka-POW! she gives you the most delicious little morsels of protein truffle goodness you’ve ever had. Let me illustrate what I mean with the help of a tashman who is meant to represent pretty much all of us.

Here is Super Charlie saying hello, introducing herself as Creator of Protein Truffle Bliss. Next to her is a skeptical tashman, saying, “yeah yeah, here is some protein powder. Here are some ingredients. Let’s see if you can make something as good as they say you can” (Side note: the tashman often comes off as rude but don’t be fooled, he has a heart of gold):



A minute later, BAM! Super Charlie has already whipped up some Peanut Butter & Jelly (supercharged with chocolate chips) Protein Truffles! Cinnamon & Cacao Sweet Potato Protein Truffles! And White Chocolate and Orange Protein Truffles! The tashman’s jaw drops.


He eats the protein truffles one bite at a time and is transported to the land of deliciousness. He noms the big noms and Super Charlie? Super Charlie floats back her website and instagram home, out of where she flies off to introduce the rest of the world to her protein truffle deliciousness. But WAIT. What is that Super Charlie is leaving behind if not… the recipes!



Orange and White Chocolate Protein Truffles

These truffles have a kind of moist cakey texture, quite sweet & tangy, goes really well with the white chocolate coating & the little almond on top gives a little bit of crunch too!

Orange, Almond, White Chocolate Protein Truffles 5Ingredients:

1/4 cup unflavoured whey protein
1/4 cup ground almonds (plus a bit extra, if you need to dry out the mix later)
1tbsp high protein nuts n more white chocolate peanut butter
1tbsp coconut flour
1-2caps valencian orange oil (mine came from Asda)
1-2tbsp water (add a little at a time so that the mix doesn’t get too wet & sticky)
7 drops vanilla flavdrops
zest of half an orange
50g white chocolate
6 flaked almonds


  1. Put the whey, ground almonds, peanut butter, coconut flour, orange oil & 1tbsp water in to a bowl & stir together. If the mix is super stiff, add a little more water, if it is crazy sticky or not holding together, add a little more ground almonds.
  2. Stir together until the mix balls up in to one lump & leaves the bowl clean.
  3. Grab a baking sheet & line it with non-stick baking paper.
  4. Divide the mix in to 6 equal pieces and roll in to balls. Place the balls on to the prepared sheet & leave to rest.
  5. Melt the white chocolate (I’m lazy & not a chocolatier, so I chuck mine in a bowl and blast it in the microwave in 5-10 second blocks until it has *just* melted. Allow the chocolate to cool a little.
  6. Roll each ball in the melted chocolate to coat – you gotta move pretty fast here, otherwise your chocolate will be unworkable. Pop each chocolate coated ball back on to the sheet & place a flaked almond on top of each one.
  7. Put the whole sheet in the fridge for 30 mins until they are set & firm.
  8. Store these dudes in the fridge for up to 5 days, but I’m sure they won’t last that long! ;)

Macros per truffle (out of 8): 107kcals, 6.3g fat, 6.7g carbs, 6g protein

Peanut Butter & Jelly, Supercharged with chocolate chips!

Sweet, salty and studded with crunch and jammy strawberry pieces. Perfect little 4 pm protein treat! Also, they are vegan!

Ingredients for the batter:

1/2 cup soaked cashews (soak in water for a couple of hours)
Juice of 1 lemon
1/8 cup melted coconut oil
1/4 cup coconut milk
1/8 cup maple syrup
1tbsp peanut butter
2tbsp powdered peanut butter
4 tbsp peanut flour
1 scant scoop pea protein powder
pinch sea salt
15g dried strawberries (chopped)
15g sugar free choc chips
10 drops vanilla flav drops (or vanilla extract)
5 drops toffee flav drops (optional)

Ingredients for the coating:

1tsp powdered peanut butter (this one, by Sukrin!)
1tsp Sukrin icing sugar


1. Put the soaked cashews (drained), lemon juice, coconut oil, coconut milk & maple syrup in a liquidiser. Blend until smooth.
2. scrape out in to a bowl.
3. Add in the other batter ingredients and stir together to form a dough.
4. Divide & roll the dough in to 16 balls.
5. Put the coating ingredients on a large plate & roll the balls to coat.
6. Will keep in the fridge for 4-5days.

Macros per 1/16 of the batter: 73kcals, 4.4g fat, 5.4g carbs, 3.4g protein.

Soft, sweet, lightly spiced & super moist – recipe can easily be doubled, because they won’t last long!

Ingredients for the batter:

1/4 cup mashed sweet potato
1/4 cup chocolate whey protein powder
1tbsp peanut butter (I used chocolate salted caramel by Hognuts)
pinch ground cinnamon
pinch ground nutmeg
3tbsp ground almonds
2tbsp cocoa powder
2 tsp agave syrup
small pinch sea salt
2 tbsp coconut flour
10 drops toffee flavdrops (optional)

Ingredients for the coating:

generous 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder
generous 1/2 tbsp ground almonds
1/2 tbsp Sukrin icing sugar
pinch ground cinnamon


1. Mix all the batter ingredients in a bowl, using a spoon.
2. Divide the mix in to 8 truffles & roll in to balls.
3. Put the coating mix on a large plate.
4. Roll the truffles in the mix to roughly coat them.
5. Eat them all or store in the fridge for up to 4/5 days.

Macros per truffle (makes 8): 87kcals, 5.1g fat, 1.9g fibre, 5.8g protein.
