Chunky Monkey Inspired Protein Cheesecake – a Guest Post by Dylan
A few months ago, an account called ‘Driven2lift‘ tagged me (@proteinpow) on Instagram under a photo of a protein cake that was inspired by one of my recipes. I went to check out the photo and was really impressed! I was impressed by both the recipe I was tagged under and by the rest of the food posted in the Driven2lift account. It was all delicious desserts made using different kinds of whey protein powders!
I told Dylan that if he was ever wanted to feature one of his recipes as a guest post here at Pow, I’d be happy to publish it. Dylan’s use of whey protein powder in cooking is just great – it’s very inspiring and a fantastic example of how, with creativity, passion, and experimentation, you can create delicious protein foods!
Dylan’s response to my offer? An absolutely over-the-moon and effervescent “YEAH!!!!!!” The very next day in fact, he sent me the recipe for this delicious protein cheesecake which he made quite a few times to ensure the photos were just right. I think you’ll agree with me that they are. The cheesecake looks (and sounds) deliiiicious. Without further ado then… mic over to ya, Dylan!

Weight loss and fitness lifestyles can be really tough at times and cravings can become overwhelming. That’s why I love baking with protein, because it’s a fantastic way to make healthier versions of our favorite treats so we can still enjoy them.
The recipe I am sharing with you today is a healthier rendition of one of my own weak spots: Ben and Jerry’s Ice Creams. I am recreating all of their flavor themes into entire cheesecakes, with far fewer calories than the 500g pints. This cheesecake is one of my own favorites from the Ben and Jerry’s line: the Chunky Monkey.
Chunky Monkey is a banana base with chocolate and walnuts mixed in. At first glance, there will be people wondering why I used a chocolate protein in the recipe instead of a banana. I love protein powders, they taste amazing, but they will never be quite as good as a fresh fruit of the exact ripeness you prefer. That’s why I mashed a banana into the base and also included diced banana chunks throughout the cheesecake! Here’s the full recipe:
2 (250g) containers of cream cheese – I used 95% FF
3/4 cup 0% greek yoghurt
1/2 cup egg whites
1/2 cup splenda (or substitute a sweetener)
2 large, ripe bananas
1 scoop (about 1/4 cup) chocolate whey protein (or banana or vanilla)
1/4 cup sugar-free chocolate chips
1/4 cup walnut pieces
1. Let the cream cheese, greek yoghurt, and egg whites sit out until room temperature.
2. Grease a 9″ spring form pan and pre heat oven to 350 F (around 175 C).
3. In a large bowl beat together the cream cheese and yoghurt until creamed; then beat in sweetener, whey, and egg whites
4. Mash one banana and stir it in, then fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts.
5. Pour into the spring form pan, and slice the second banana into slices, pushing them into the top near the outer edges
6. Put the pan into the oven and wait about 40-48 minutes depending on your oven, edges will brown
Macros per slice (out of 8): 159kcals, 5g fat, 13g carbs (3 fiber), 17g protein!
