Almond & Protein Crispie Treats

Protein Crispy Treats Gluten-Free

I don’t know about you but I used to loooove Krispie Treats. You know, the crispy squares of puffed rice that cRRRRRunch-cRRRRRunch-cRRRRRRRunch with every bite? Yeah, those ones. I used to really like them. But I stopped eating them a while back because I realized that they’re not exactly a ‘healthy treat’ – they’re pretty much just… sugar :-/

But I missed them. Wouldn’t you? I mean, there’s just nothing like them! No other food can deliver that sort of stickiness combined with crispiness against a sweet vanilla and that oh-so-special *cRRRRRRRunch!*

Until now, thanks to MyProtein who are, as far as I know, the only ones who sell the stuff – at least for an affordable price and in an accessible form here in the UK. If you’re in the US though, guess what? You can get THIS stuff from ‘Body Crunch’. The specs for those crispies (or ‘crunchies’ are they call them) are pretty much the same so they should do the job.

Anyways, as soon as I found out about MyProtein’s Protein Crispies, I logged on to their store, added a bag to my virtual cart, entered my delivery details, checked out, and started fantasizing. Finally,  Protein Crispie Treats! Welcome to this recipe!

Ingredients:

1 cup Protein Crispies
4 tablespoons Meridian almond butter
4 tablespoons agave syrup
2 teaspoons sweetener of choice (here, I used toffee because it adds a really nice caramely flavor to the treats)

Directions:

1. Mix everything together in a big bowl.

2. Press the mix onto a silicone tray, cake, or bread pan. I saw silicone because they’re easier to ‘unstick’ that way but if you don’t have any silicone bakeware, just use a regular brownie pan or tray lined with parchment paper.

3. Leave to set in the freezer for an hour.

4. Slice (check out the video I posted on my IG of this a while back) and munch – or keep refrigerated and munch later.

Macros per square (out of eight):

101kcals
7g protein
7g carbs
4g fat
